Stress and Stress Management
Stress is our emotional, mental, physical, and social reaction to any perceived demands or threats.
For example, you are too close to the exams but feel unprepared.
Stress Management is about making a plan to cope effectively with daily pressures. You have to make a suitable plan for your daily life routines so that it does not put too much pressure on you. If you are not able to manage the increasing pressure, this will lead to stress.
Our main goal is to maintain a balance between life, work, relationships, relaxation, and fun. By doing this, you can manage stress-related problems in your daily life.

The stress management techniques are:
- Time Management
– Plan your daily activities wisely. Prioritize important tasks, avoid procrastination, and set realistic deadlines. This reduces last-minute pressure. - Physical Exercise & Fresh Air
– Regular physical activity (like walking, running, or sports) releases endorphins, the “feel-good” hormones. Taking a walk in nature or breathing fresh air helps relax the mind. - Healthy Diet
– Eating balanced meals with fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and enough water keeps the body energized and the mind alert. Avoid too much junk food, caffeine, or sugar. - Yoga & Meditation
– Yoga improves flexibility and calms the body, while meditation helps control negative thoughts, improves focus, and lowers stress. - Positive Thinking (Positivity)
– Maintaining an optimistic outlook helps to reduce anxiety. Instead of focusing on problems, think of possible solutions. - Organizing Academic Life

Explain the importance of stress management
Stress management is crucial for maintaining overall well-being and improving quality of life. It involves adopting strategies and techniques to cope with and reduce negative effects of stress, which is the body’s natural response to challenges or threats. While some level of stress can be beneficial as it motivates us and helps us face challenges, excessive or prolonged (lengthy) stress can have detrimental effects on our physical, emotional, and mental health.
What are the different types of stressors?
Stress is not always a bad thing. Stress is simply the body’s response to changes that create taxing demands, either physical or mental. Stressors are not always limited to external problems; internal factors such as thoughts, emotions, and habitual behaviours can also cause negative stress.
There are two types of stressors:
(i) Eustress and (ii) Distress.
Eustress is a positive form of stress that can be beneficial and motivating, while Distress is negative stress that causes extreme anxiety, sorrow, or pain.
